01Summer

Summer in San Cassiano

In summer you set off from Planat on foot or by bike. Here is where to start, what has been checked and how to choose an apartment.

02Start

Where you start

Planat is a private house in San Cassiano, in Alta Badia, in the Val Badia valley. Five independent apartments, each with a private sauna and parking included.

The Piz Sorega lifts are a 2-minute walk away; the way back is uphill. The village centre is a walk of about ten minutes.

03Hiking

Hiking

From the village, by lift. The Piz Sorega cable car goes up to the upper station, at about 2,040 m. From there starts the official route across the Pralongià plateau to Corvara: 8.7 km in all, medium difficulty, passing the Ütia Bioch and the Albergo Alpino Pralongià. It is a one-way route, not a loop: the return to San Cassiano has to be planned.

For the Fanes plateau, in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, there is an official route from San Cassiano. Start, length, times and return are described on the official page, which is worth reading before you decide.

04Cycling

By bike

Mountain biking. The Bike Beats – Alta Badia Trails are five flow trails of different difficulty (Ödli, Avëna, Cör, Fle and Mans, 1.3 to 2 km), with banked turns and jumps. From San Cassiano you reach them by the Piz Sorega cable car. Access to the trails is free of charge; the cable car ride, rentals and other services have their own conditions. According to Alta Badia, bikes can be rented in the valley, including in San Cassiano, and e-MTBs also at the upper station.

Road cycling. The official Roda de Fodom ride passes through San Cassiano: a loop of 53.4 km and 1,399 m of climbing over the Campolongo, Falzarego and Valparola passes, moderate difficulty.
